Red Carpet Trends: 20s Style Waves

Get side swept for this Fashion Do’s: Retro 20s style waves! One of the biggest trends in fashion that is an up-and-comer is the 1920s era influence, especially for the Spring 2013 and Pre-Fall 2013 runways. One of my favorite examples of the 20s style was at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards where so many celebrities wore the side swept lose waves that are so romantic. Stars like Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Isla Fisher, Megan Fox, and Rachel Weisz rocked this look and its super easy to do!

Here is a simple How-To from my favorite blog The Beauty Department that shows you step by step of hot to get 20s style waves. All you need is a medium barrel curing iron, a clip, a comb, and some hair spray.

1. Clip the top half of your hair up

2 Curl the bottom layer with the curling iron, making sure to curl your hair in inside curls (toward your face)

3. Curl the rest of your hair in sections and make sure it is all curled the same way (inside)

4. Spray your curls with hairspray and let them set for a minute or two

5. Take your comb and gently brush out your curls, start to brush them so they form the same ascending shape

6. Once you have brushed them all out, curl the ends so they all consistently curl under

7. Finish off with hairspray and you have been transported back to the retro age!

Purple-y Correct: Pastel Purple Hair

Pastels have seemed to have cast a spell on the spring 2012 trends, not only in fashion but in hair styles as well! My favorite Fashion Police Star Kelly Osbourne has been rocking her purple hued hair with confidence for a few months! She went gradually from a light grey with purple undertones to a full on pastel lavender shade of purple, and I think its fabulous! All around Pinterest and fashion blogs, I keep seeing the purple hair and it is finally trending to have your hair a different color other then the “normal” colors! I think in times like these, anyone should be able to color their hair or whatever they want! As long as they are happy that is all that matters! I would recommend to have a color like this professionally done especially if you have dark hair! Check out some the lovely fashion photography below of pastel purple hair and decide if you are willing to go lavender!

All Chalked Up: Colored Tips

Adding some color to your do is something that has been very popular this time of year! Celebs like Katy Perry, Kelly Osbourne, and even Joan Rivers have added a little and a lot of pastel colors to their normal locks! But you may be thinking, this is way to big of a step to dye your hair a crayon color, but here is a quick DIY fix that will wash out: Chalk Tips! That’s right! You can have temporary colored tips and highlights that are so easy to do yourself, super cheap, and completely safe on your hair! Whether you are attending a themed party, Electric Daisy Carnival, or just feeling daring, this fun colorful twist is perfect for jumping off the cliff of your style boundaries! I know this all looks really complicated, but trust me using chalk to temporarily color your hair is very simple! Here is what you will need:

  • Soft Pastel Chalk (DO NOT get oil based because it will be a little harder to get out)
  • A bristle brush
  • ( If you have dark hair, wet it before you apple the chalk. If you have lighter or blonde hair DO NOT wet it because it could leave a stain.)

All you have to do is twist the ends of your hair and run the chalk over the twisted section. Untwist the section and lightly brush through the color removing any excess powder. The colors will naturally fade throughout the day and to completely remove, brush through your hair and shampoo and condition to add moisture back into your tips. Go for your temporary edgy color tips quick fix with these easy steps! Mix and match any color to correspond with your outfit or occasion and have fun getting a lot of compliments on your new look! ~ <3

The Lighter Side: Ombre Highlights

Golden hues peeking out from under brunette lustrous locks seems to be on every celebrity in sight! What is this trend you may be wondering, its Ombre Highlights! I know its a little strange, believe me when I first saw this look I thought all of these stars hadn’t had their roots done in forever. Once I took a closer look I began to really love it! Celebs like Lily Aldridge, Drew Barrymore, Lauren Conrad, and so many more are taking on this dramatic hairstyle! I absolutely love this California look because it reminds me of being at the beach, feeling the sand in my toes, and the water rushing past my ankles. Perfect for summer and very different then blonde highlights! The Ombre has an edge!

So you may be thinking, yeah this is cool but kind of intimidating ad when done wrong, it can look like you let your roots grow out for too long! Yes this is a bold statement hair color, but when you or your hairdresser attempts this look you want to make sure the highlights blend in and almost peek out from under! I would recommend going to a hairdresser to have this color done but if you want to attempt it yourself, here is an easy step-by-step process courtesy of The Beauty Department.com on how to do this color yourself:

Beachy waves are calling you, and not the meek ones! The Ombre hairstyle embodies the half-pipe waves, dark body with white curled tips! Ombre styles are the new way to have highlights and if they are done correctly, you will look so much more different and chic then your friends with regular highlights! The sky is the limit with how bold you want to be with the Ombre hairstyle, you just have to take the first leap!
