Make those girls turn green with envy!- green eye shadow tutorial

With St. Patricks day on the way, now is the time to pull out all your green in your wardrobe! Ready for something different though? How about some green eye makeup, to fill your festive spirit. Today we have two great looks to choose from, a night time and day time look.

At the bottom of this post is an eye map, to show where to put your makeup on your lid, and pictures of what colors i used to get an idea of what yours could look like!

Day Time look:

1. To begin for either of these looks, begin with a clean lid. With an even coat, apply your lightest green to the base of the lid. For this I used a minty green.

2. Next, apply the medium color of green throughout the whole crease of the lid. My medium green is more of a mossy tone. Use a blending brush and blend the medium green into the base and out towards the brow.

3. Last, add your darkest green in the outer V of your eye blend this into the lid.

4. Finish with your highlight color- I used a color named Twinkle by Origins- on the brow bone and on the inner corner of your eye. With a touch of mascara you’re ready to rock this look! Its simple, quick, and the perfect way to wear a soft green on your eyes without it looking like too much!

 Night Time look:

This look is especially fun if you’re going to a St. Patricks Day party, or goin out with friends to celebrate.

1. This time I stared with a nude eye shadow and covered the inside half of the base of my lid, including the inner corner.  If you look to my color pallet picture, I used the middle green, for me it was the lightest. I covered the other half of my lid with this color. Then I carefully blended the two together right down the middle.

2.I then used the next darkest color to go into the crease, blending it in to the colors on the base of my lid.

3. Finally I used my darkest green and put it in the outer V of my lid. I blended this into the rest of the lid. My highlight color I added to the brow bone  and the tear duct. I blended these in to the rest of the eye shadow.

4. To make this look complete I added some black liquid eye liner and black mascara.

With these two awesome looks you will be sure to have a fabulous St. Patricks Day!

Here is a diagram to help guide you where the different colors go on your lid. Super helpful, and good information for future reference.

Crafty Monday: Sweater Legwarmers

Fall is coming up fast and boy we cannot wait! This year I am so serious about making my own legwarmers to go under my boots, which was a hug trend that took off at the end of last winter and is blazing on for this upcoming fall! Since legwarmers can kind of be on the pricier side, I decided to share with you my “Girl on a Budget” DIY Sweater socks! Its super simple and somewhat environmentally friendly because we are going to make legwarmers from recycling an old sweater! Easy right!

Here is what you will need:

  • An old sweater
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread that matches the color of your sweater

Step One: Take you old sweater and lie it on a flat surface

Step Two: Use your scissors to cut along the arm of the sweater two inches below the shoulder

Step Three: Take your needle and thread and  gently make a loop stitch just to keep the cut part from fraying

Ta-Da! You have an adorable pair of legwarmers that literally cost nothing. You can make the legwarmers whatever size and color you want. So now you finally have something to do with those old worn out sweaters tat have been sitting in your donate pile!

Happy Crafting!

Friday Favorite: Ombre, Ombre, Ombre

Ombre! The word that has been falling out of the mouths of everyone in fashion, Hollywood, and every store in America! The ombre trend has swept like wildfire over this past summer season has taken over fashion and beauty! One of the most popular trends has been ombre highlights and worn by celebs like Khloe Kardashian, Drew Barrymore, and Jessica Biel! The ombre highlights trend brought new meaning to grown out room! The trick is when you go into your salon, have your stylist add tons of peak-a-boo highlights to give the ombre affect! You can also go more daring and add colored ombre highlights like Jessie J and Lauren Conrad! Adding pastel tips into your hair can really give you a funky edge that will definitely make you stand out!

The cascading fade from one color to another has been taken to a new level and polished onto nail art! Reflecting the colors of a sunset, the ombre nail trend is great with different shades of pastel in the same color family. The best way to apply is with a makeup spnge, paint the colors onto the sponge and apply over nails. Voula! You will have the cutest ombre nails that will definitely get you so many compliments!

Ombre has swept over the world of fashion as well on the red carpet, the runway, and fashion blogs all over the internet! Just recently, singer Beyonce wore a black and purple ombre dress by Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci at the 2012 Met Gala Awards where she showed off her rocking post-baby body! Singer Cheryl Cole dazzled at Queen Elizabeth’s 60th Diamond Jubilee wearing a stunning Spring 2012 Couture gown by Polish designer Ewa Minge! The black and white ombre dress made Cole look like she was floating as she sang Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.” Ombre has also been all over the Spring/Summer 2012 Runway shows in forms of dresses, tops, skirts, and shorts!

I know that ombre shorts can either be hard to find or on the pricier side, so here is a quick little DIY Ombre shorts project! Here is what you will need:

  • Jean Shorts
  • Measuring Cup
  • Bottle of liquid dye
  • Bucket
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Water

Step One: Rinse your shorts with water

Step Two: Add 2 gallons of hot water to bucket along with 1/3 cup of dye. Mix well

Step Three: Dip shorts in half way and set for 10 minutes. After the time is up, pull shorts up exposing half of the dyed part. Leave the last part in for another 10 minutes to get a darker shade of color on the bottom.

Step Four: Remove shorts and rinse until the water runs clear. Hang out to dry to let dye set!

There you have it! Easy ombre shorts and trust me you will be feeling trendy every time you wear these beauties!

DIY Braided Top Knot

Are you looking for a hair-do that’s top knot-ch? The up-do that has been seen on so many celebrities from Vanessa Hudgens to January Jones is the braided top knot!  Whether you are attending a formal occasion or just lunch with some friend, the braided top knot is your go to hair do that is so easy to do on clean or dirty hair! It may look intimidating but is actually very simple. Super easy for when you are in a rush and need to look good fast!

So here is what you will need:

A hair tie

A brush that you can rat your hair with

A bunch of bobby pins

Step 1: Put all of your hair into a pony tail on top of your head

Step 2: Take your brush and gently tease the hair that is in the ponytail. This will give the bun more volume and will be easier to work with

Step 3: Wrap your hair into the shape of a bun and secure with the bobby pins. Save a piece from being pinned because that is the piece you are going to braid

Step 4: Once your bun is pinned into place. Braid the extra piece that you left out and secure with bobby pins around your bun

Done! A very simple and easy braided bun in only a few short steps! You can add more to your bun with a flower, ribbon, or any other accessories you choose! If you want to see a great step-by-step tutorial, watch this video from The Shine Project Blog! Have some fun with your hair today with a boho braided top knot and trust me the compliments will come rolling in!
