Black & White from Stars to Street fashion

The black and white trend is back! Ready to rock the style? Before diving into some basic black and white pieces at For Elyse, let’s take a look at some celebrities who have recently been sporting the trend.

First we have Jessica Alba wearing a conservative black and white checkerboard dress, with black heels and a black purse to match. This shows how easy it is to have an already made black and white outfit for those who aren’t sure of how to create their own. It’s simple to buy the base piece and add black and white accessories to it! Second we have Jessica Chastain wearing a lacy white dress with a black blazer and black accessories to match. She chose to get two basic pieces to create her look. Lastly, Miranda Kerr is below in black leather pants, a black and white printed floral top, and a grey coat. A little bit of hard and soft makes this look trendy, and an easy everyday outfit for around town.

Colored and Printed Skinny Jeans

With the vast array of skinny jeans on the market these days, you can be sure you’ll be able to find a pair to suit your mood. Feeling confident? Why not bright red. Playful? How about a floral print. Flirty? Perphaps mint or light teal would be just the thing. Celebrities are no stranger to printed and colored skinny jeans, so let’s take a look at some of my favorite celeb looks in skinnies!

Here’s Taylor Swift in a deep red pair, which she paired with ballet flats, a striped shirt, and matching red lipstick. Kate Bosworth is wearing a more subtle pair of skinnies that have a contrasting leopard-esque print, which couldn’t be more perfect for laid back day of shopping.

Katy Perry looked lovely in the pair of purple floral print skinny jeans she wore on a recent UNICEF trip to Madagascar.

And now for the regining queen of colored and printed skinnies: Jessica Alba. Girl loves her skinny jeans! She rocks them in everything from bright colors to florals, and dresses them up and down for all occasions. I love the colorful and sleek look she built around a pair of mint skinny jeans, and the floral print pair she has tucked into her Docs is the perfect combination of sweet and tough.

Red Carpet Season: Oscars Best/Worst Dressed

Red carpet season is at a wrap and went out with a a bang at the 2013 Academy Awards in Hollywood, California! Celebrities brought out their best for the Oscar red carpet and there were so many that did not disappoint! But as always there were a few that lingered the question, “What were you thinking?!” Here are my best and worst picks from the 2013 Oscar Red carpet!

Best Dressed:

Hands down, best dressed had to be Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive! The Zero Dark Thirty best actress nominee looked like a true movie star in this nude curve hugging gown that had a detailed beaded design that just enhanced her form! The color of the gown really complimented her red hair that she wore half parted with curls along with modern earrings and a red lip to tie the whole look together! Jessica may not have won the Oscar, but she won in my heart as Best Dressed!

Runner Up for Best Dressed:

Big winner of the night, Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in this white Dior Haute Couture gown! Even though Jennifer took a tumble walking up the stairs to accept her award, she looked gorgeous while falling! With her hair back and simple diamond earrings, Jennifer made this structured almost bridal looking dress look young and fresh with a thin chain necklace that she wore backwards! Way to go Jennifer! We love you just the way you are!

Best Dressed List:

There were so many great looks on this red carpet it was so hard to choose who was the best! Nominee Amy Adams looked soft and elegant in a grey ruffle Oscar De La Renta gown that made her look like she was floating down the red carpet. Trend-setter Kerry Washington looked spring-y fresh in a coral beaded Miu Miu gown that complimented her lovely skin. Performer and former Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson, wore something different with this blue scale Roberto Cavalli gown that showed off all of her hard work on her body and long straight black hair with bangs screen diva!! One thing I love about Zoe Saldana is that she always takes fashion risks and she certainly did in this Alexis Mabille high low gown that looked stunning on her! Performer and former Best Actress winner Charlize Theron showed off her new pixie hair for a recent roll and statuesque form in this white peplum Christian Dior gown. Going with an edgier gun metal metallic dress, nominee Naomi Watts looked amazing in this custom Armani Prive that made her one of the best on the red carpet!

Worst Dressed:

Sorry to say, but Anne Hathaway was my worst dressed of the night, not like she would care since she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Les Miserables. Even though I am so happy for her, I expected a lot more from her as a nominee to pull out all the stops. This was her moment and when I looked at this Prada gown, all I could see was her nipples which was so distracting. Anne commented that she was supposed to wear a Valentino and that probably would have been the better choice.

Red Carpet Season 2013: 70th Golden Globe Awards

“And the winner is… fashion!” Last night at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, movie and TV stars brought the glitz and glam to the red carpet! In the cool winter afternoon in Beverly Hills, CA, celebrities wore the latest off the high fashion runways and left us stunned! Here are some of the trends from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet!

It Color: Red!

Red was one of the trendiest colors of the night and definitely stood out as a power color! Jennifer Lawrence, who won for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, wore a blood orange red Dior Haute Couture gown accented with a pewter metallic belt that gave it a modern edge! New mom Claire Danes showed off her post baby body in a crimson red Versace gown which complimented her win for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series Homeland. Marion Cotillard wore a swanky red dress by Christian Dior while Zooey Dechanel wore a full princess gown by Oscar de la Renta.

White Hot

White was a smoking color last night and the stars who wore white looked like bombshells! Anne Hathaway looked stunning in a beaded white Chanel dress that had a classic corset bodice and slim skirt that was a statement of sleek elegance.  Lea Michele looked so hot in this beaded ivory Ellis Saab gown that showed off her toned arms and had a sexy high slit to show off some leg! Heidi Klum made us remember why she was kicknamed “The Body,” in this skin tight one shoulder Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress that had a gold jewel detail around the neck and showed off her long model legs! Jennifer Lopez wore a nude and ivory lace Zuhair Murad body con dress that gave the allusion of her wearing nothing but the lace! She got curves for days in that dress!

Back in Black

Black is always a safe move when attending a red carpet, but these stars took major risks with their LBD‘s! Eva Longoria looked gorgeous in the romantic lace Emilio Pucci gown that showed off a lot of cleavage and a lot of leg! Alexander McQueen was a popular designer worn by Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman in these black form fitting dresses that had interesting cutouts and fun embellishments, as expected by the imaginative designs of McQueen! Adele also wore her signature color of black and kept it simple in this 3/4 sleeve dress by Burberry! The new mom gushed about the inspirations of her newborn son and was giddy over her first Golden Globe win for Best Original Song for her song in Skyfall.

Bejeweled

Sparkling on the red carpet in head-to-tow beaded dresses was very appropriate given this event! Kerry Washington looked modern and fresh in this silver encrusted Miu Miu dress that spoke of the 20s trend currently circulating through the tents of fashion week! Sofia Vergara brought the sparkle along with the Va-va-voom as always in a black sequin dress by up-and-coming designer Michael Cinco. Sparkling her way to win the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, Jodie Foster gave a moving speech in a blue jewel Giorgio Armani dress that made her look like a true movie star! Hayden Panettiere had one of her best red carpet moments in this white beaded Roberto Cavalli gown that made her glitter and shine like a diamond!

Pastel Dreams

With pastels being a huge trend during the Spring 2013 Collections of New York Fashion Week, many stares opted for softer hued gowns. Best Actress winner Jessica Chastain looked like a mermaid in this soft sea foam blue Calvin Klein dress that looked like a waterfall as she walked. Amy Adams looked lovely in a pale pink gown by Marchesa gown and Megan Fox wore a similar pale peach  Dolce & Gabbana lace gown. Spring colors were definitely awakened when Rosario Dawson wore this mint peplum Antonio Berardi gown that had an edgy structure that complemented the soft colors. Peachy keen was the mood set by Jessica Alba in a peach mermaid Oscar de la Renta gown and Amanda Seyfried in a lace light peach Givenchy dress.

The 70th Golden Globe red carpet was so fun to watch and the stars pulled out their best to set off red carpet season with a bang! Can’t wait to see what they wear next!

HOT Factor: Selena Gomez

Hot Factor: Selena Gomez

Where: UNICEF Snowflake Ball 2012

Cause: Honoring celebrities for their philanthropic efforts within the charity

Designer: Dolce & Gabbana

This week’s Hot Factor has to be Selena Gomez at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball where she was honored for her contributions as a UNICEF Ambassador toward the common goal of  saving lives in the Sahel region of West and Central Africa. Not only was Gomez humble and eloquent on the red carpet, she looked stunning in a black velvet Dolce & Gabbana Gown that had bronze glitter trim and subtle mesh cutouts. Justin who? Selena Gomez can have whoever she wants in this dress!

Red Carpet Season: Trends from the Emmys

Glitz, glamor, and don’t forget to roll out the red carpet! Its my favorite time of the year: the beginning of the red carpet season has just been kicked off with the Prime Time Emmy Awards! TV’s most infamous stars were dressed to impress during the Los Angeles event! What I love most about the Emmys, is that it always takes place at the end of the summer when the weather is still warm and the trends are still as hot as ever!

One of the best trends that was on the Emmy Red Carpet had to be the cool Citrus Breeze that was oh-so-refreshing! Leading ladies such as Julie Bowen, Claire Danes, and Julianne Moore wore more of a neon citrus while ladies such as Kaley Cuoco and Leslie Mann wore gowns with an orange tint! Needless to say, these trends spoke loud and clear on the red carpet and was a breath of fresh air!

If you wanted to see a fish out of water, you definitely saw it on the red carpet this year! Many stars chose the “Fish of the Sea” trend that sported many blue hues that looked as deep as the ocean! Stars like Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad and Julianne Hough wore gorgeous ocean colored gowns with incredible detailing that resembled fish scales! Zoe Dechanel and Heidi Klum were as romantic as a rippling reflection in pale pastel blues, while Hayden Panettiere looked like a mermaid caught in a fisherman’s net that left me breathless!

Red is always a great color to wear to an award show because of its strong presence and feminine touch! Many stars looked  absolutely ravishing in red like Kat Dennings in a ruched deep red gown by J. Mendel and Cat Deely in a structured bright red couture gown from Tadashi Shoji. But the stunner of the night in my opinion was definitely comedic actress and writer, Tina Fey, who wore a dark maroon Vivienne Westwood dress that featured a gold embroidered bodice that looked straight out of 18th century Madrid!

The Emmy Awards did not disappoint as far as the red carpet went! Celebs came dressed to impress and there were hardly any worst dressed this year! Way to step it up! We can’t wait for the rest of the red carpet season to pick up and dream about wearing all of those designer gowns!

Red Carpet Alert: VMAs 2012

Every year, there is one event where anything can happen! This year’s 2012 MTV Video Music Awards took place in Los Angeles, CA at the iconic Staples Center where celebrities brought their best, wackiest, and excitement! Like the Grammy’s, the VMAs are a perfect event to go all out in terms of fashion, creativity, and artistry. Whether you go crazy or elegant, the VMAs are the place for music artists to really express their individuality, even if it is quite puzzling!

Best Dressed hands down goes to Rihanna! The Video of the Year winner literally glowed in this gorgeous white backless dress while rocking her new short and sweet pixie cut! Pink and Miley Cyrus wore edgy long sleeved gowns and bleach blonde rocker Mohawks!

Worst Dressed is definitely between Nicki Minaj, who wore a lace a red trimmed body suit that resumed what Spider-man’s girlfriend would wear to look sexy, and Kesha who wore an over sized lace cutout dress that looked like a mens shirt. No no no!

Gowns are always a favorite of stars on any red carpet and so was Katy Perry who looked soft and feminine in an Ellie Saab black floral gown! Alicia Keys also look fabulous in a one shoulder gold gown that flattered her post baby figure!

Short and sassy was also astar favorite on the carpet when Zoe Saldana floated down in this light pink flapper style dress that really showed off her legs! Emma Watson is always evolving with fashion and came out in a fun mix-match of patterns  in a fun top and short skirt!

Group arrivals are alwas fun to see especially when it was the newest popular boy bands, The Wanted and One Direction looked dapper in their trendy suits with cohesive color combos! Team USA’s Fab Five looked quite polished as they walked the red carpet together and announced Alicia Keys’ performance. Definitely gold  in their eyes tonight!

Red Carpet Cuties: 2012 Teen Choice Awards

On this night of all nights, the youth of America use their voice in the annual Teen Choice Awards! This year, the stars walked the “pink” carpet in eye catching summer trends! With stars like Selena Gomez and Lucy Hale stood out with popping color pallets of pink and coral while Chelsea Kane and Carly Rae look fresh and trendy in bold patterned shorts! Showing off a little skin in cutout dresses was Kylie and Kendal Jenner along with Taylor Swift who wore a gorgeous yet sexy revealing ivory dress. Sticking with prints, Tia and Tamera Mowry rocked printed dresses that were oh-so flattering while Victoria Justice caught everyone’s eye in her playful checkered print high low hem dress! Blue hues were also popular on the carpet, as was the stunning Nina Dobrev in a teal asymmetrical bustier dress along with Zooey Deschanel who looked sweet and simple like her “New Girl” character in a royal blue A-line dress! Looking for summer trends, look no further then this red carpet! Anything you could possibly want for summer is right here! Take some notes ladies!

Celebrity Sleek: Dark Nail Polish

Want to look like many of your celebrity favorites, simple! Just slap on some dark nail polish and you are good to go! Seriously, every time I see a photo of a celebrity, she is rocking dark nail polish! As the biggest fad among celebs like Blake Lively, Selena Gomez, Eva Mendez, Ann Hathaway and so many others, dark nails are the perfect color for any red carpet! The color is versatile enough for a casual public appearance or even the Oscars! But black isn’t the only color these stars are rocking, its different shades that make your nails special! Instead of a black color, try a dark Navy, deep purple, or even a really dark brown! The dark colors will compliment pretty much any outfit and give you an edge to your whole look! Give it a try and mix it up! You will be mistaken for a “somebody” the next time you go out!

Fashion Olympics: Met Gala 2012

Truly a night for fashion: this years Met Gala 2012wet off without a hitch and was the finals in the fashion Olympics! This event is a night all about fashion, taking chances, and going that extra level of of couture elegance! This year was no surprise, many celebrities attended with gorgeous high fashion ensembles that were made for the Red Carpet!  There were many spring trends that walked up and down the carpet but also so many creative looking outfits that were all together very inspiring! One of my favorites hands-down had to be Karolina Kurkova in a custom golden goddess design by Rachel Zoe! She literally looked like an Oscar Award with this body hugging gold dress and the matching gold turban took this look to a whole new level; completely appropriate for the Met Gala! Another popular sleek look was Rihanna in an alligator Tom Ford dress and Christian Louboutin heels! The plunging back give this dress some sexiness while the perfect tailoring and fit to her body relayed some elegance!

Pastel colors were also a big hit on the Met Red Carpet, particularly yellow worn by Solange Knowles and January Jones! Both of these women lit up the carpet in vibrant shades of yellow, Solange wore a Rachel Roy yellow Peplum gown that really complimented her skin tone and had a lovely train! She definitely got this Red Carpet right (even better then her sister if you ask me)! January Jones also rocked this bright colored Versace bustier gown that had a geometric Peplum and seams along with silver cutouts! Definitely loving this color on both of them!

A designer who was honored numerous times on the Red Carpet was the late Alexander McQueen and his amazingly unique designs worn by Cate Blanchett and Florence Welch in Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen! Cate glided down in this gown made entirely of feathers with a feathered mermaid skirt! Florence also worn McQueen in this textured tired ivory dress that flared out as she twirled for photographers. I know this dress was highly scrutinized but I loved it because it is truly a work of art that should be admired!

Gold and metallics were also a huge trend no the red carpet especially worn by Carey Mulligan in this metallic Prada dress!  Halter A-line dress had metallic mirrors all over tat reflected the light every time she moved! Very glamorous! Another great metallic look was worn by Camille Belle in Ralph Lauren Collection! This delicate silver dress had sheer sleeves and a plunging V neckline that kept her looking youthful and super sexy!

Peplum power has been seen on every celebrity and every red carpet this spring season! Some of the most memorable Peplums were worn by Eva Mendez in Prada and Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou. Eva wore a bright spring color, orange, that had a longer slimmer Peplum and black and white geometric details on the bust. Very complimentary for her skin tone and gave off a funky sophistication vibe! Unfortunately this look worn by Elizabeth Banks was not my favorite of the night. I thought the Peplum was a very interesting length and very figure flattering bu the top half turtle-neck shrug was not attractive and the prints were clashing too much. If there top was gone and the bust came to a simple straight strapless bust, I would have liked it a lot more!

I dream of one ay being able to attend the Met Gala just so I can wear and see all of the unique costumes and fashions that come straight off the runway onto the red carpet! The Met Gala is a night devoted to over-the-top fashion and is seriously a race for the craziest look! Such an extravagant event for fashion has come to  close this year and I’m sure next year will bring even more surprises!
