Walking the Yellow Brick Road at the Oz premeires

With Oz: The Great and Powerful opening over the weekend, we thought we’d look back at what the leading ladies wore to the premieres in London, Hollywood, and Tokyo. Down the yellow brick road we go!

London

Mila Kunis‘s ruffled Alexander McQueen dress looked like a leftover relic of the Civil War era. The ruffles and heavy draping overwhelmed her small frame, and the general look of this dress had me thinking it would be more comfortable at a hoe down rather than a film premiere.

Rachel Weisz looked stunning in a slinky 1940′s inspired gown from Micheal Kors. The fitted bodice, belt, and ruching at the hip complemented her gorgeous figure, and the color, while dangerously close to washing her out, looked lovely paired with her dark hair and berry colored lip.

Michelle Williams stood out against the yellow carpet in a beautiful royal blue tea length dress from Burberry. The photographs picked up the subtle texture of the feathers, including hints of emerald.  She broke up the dress with a black leather belt to complement her small waist as well as give the eye some interest.

Hollywood

Mila paired a tea length 50′s inspired frock from Dolce and Gabbana with bow-topped pumps in a similar shade. To bring some color to the look she added a pair of over-sized vintage looking purple earrings, and kept her hair soft to avoid looking too much like a retro prom queen.

Rachel turned heads in a simple red gown by Victoria Beckham. She wore her hair slicked back in a bun and kept her make up clean, which gave this look a kind of sporty chic vibe. Overall I find this a bit blah, though it does show off her amazing figure.

Michelle wore a bejeweled dress from Prada with strappy black heels. The right side has a high slit that showed off a tiny pair of black boy shorts. She wore heavy 60′s inspired black eyeliner, which gives this look distinct Mod vibes.

She’s also started growing out her pixie cut, a look she’s been sporting for some time now. This makes me a bit sad, as the pixie looked perfect on her, but then again, there’s always a time to try something new!

Tokyo

Unfortunately, only Ms. Weisz was able to attend the premiere in Tokyo, as the other two actresses were busy with prior commitments. Rachel sported soft curls parted to one side, reminiscent of Old Hollywood, a rampant trend on the red carpet this season. She wore a strapless satin dress by Lanvin; its deep raspberry color looking lovely paired with her dark hair. She went with a dark smokey eye and nude lips to play up the femme fatale vibes. It must have been cold in Japan, because she was also often seen covered up with a furry white coat!

Red Carpet Season: Oscars Best/Worst Dressed

Red carpet season is at a wrap and went out with a a bang at the 2013 Academy Awards in Hollywood, California! Celebrities brought out their best for the Oscar red carpet and there were so many that did not disappoint! But as always there were a few that lingered the question, “What were you thinking?!” Here are my best and worst picks from the 2013 Oscar Red carpet!

Best Dressed:

Hands down, best dressed had to be Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive! The Zero Dark Thirty best actress nominee looked like a true movie star in this nude curve hugging gown that had a detailed beaded design that just enhanced her form! The color of the gown really complimented her red hair that she wore half parted with curls along with modern earrings and a red lip to tie the whole look together! Jessica may not have won the Oscar, but she won in my heart as Best Dressed!

Runner Up for Best Dressed:

Big winner of the night, Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in this white Dior Haute Couture gown! Even though Jennifer took a tumble walking up the stairs to accept her award, she looked gorgeous while falling! With her hair back and simple diamond earrings, Jennifer made this structured almost bridal looking dress look young and fresh with a thin chain necklace that she wore backwards! Way to go Jennifer! We love you just the way you are!

Best Dressed List:

There were so many great looks on this red carpet it was so hard to choose who was the best! Nominee Amy Adams looked soft and elegant in a grey ruffle Oscar De La Renta gown that made her look like she was floating down the red carpet. Trend-setter Kerry Washington looked spring-y fresh in a coral beaded Miu Miu gown that complimented her lovely skin. Performer and former Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson, wore something different with this blue scale Roberto Cavalli gown that showed off all of her hard work on her body and long straight black hair with bangs screen diva!! One thing I love about Zoe Saldana is that she always takes fashion risks and she certainly did in this Alexis Mabille high low gown that looked stunning on her! Performer and former Best Actress winner Charlize Theron showed off her new pixie hair for a recent roll and statuesque form in this white peplum Christian Dior gown. Going with an edgier gun metal metallic dress, nominee Naomi Watts looked amazing in this custom Armani Prive that made her one of the best on the red carpet!

Worst Dressed:

Sorry to say, but Anne Hathaway was my worst dressed of the night, not like she would care since she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Les Miserables. Even though I am so happy for her, I expected a lot more from her as a nominee to pull out all the stops. This was her moment and when I looked at this Prada gown, all I could see was her nipples which was so distracting. Anne commented that she was supposed to wear a Valentino and that probably would have been the better choice.

Style to Watch: Elle Fanning

Who knew classic elegance and true personal style would come in a form of a 14-year-old actress! Our Style to Watch is miss Elle Fanning who is known for her child star older sister Dakota Fanning and her various acting roles in Ginger & Rosa, Phoebe in Wonderland, We Bought a Zoo, and Super 8. The platinum blonde blue eyed actress has carved a place for herself in high fashion as a true fashionista! Her understanding of high fashion items and how/ when to wear them is incredible for her age! Her style has evolved over the last couple of years and its only about to get better!

Some of my favorite looks from Elle Fanning are from the red carpet of the Breaking Dawn Premiere where she was dressed in head-to-toe Prada Spring 2013 that was remarkable fresh for being such a boxy dress! Elle has also embraced the menswear Miu Miu printed purple suit that was so chic even though she was completely covered up! Elle is not a stranger to the pastel trend! She has been spotted wearing pastel colors like blush, mint, and floral prints and very fond of designers like Oscar de la Renta and Chanel! While attending the British Independent Film Awards, Elle was pretty in pink in a blush beaded Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013 gown that had a hoop skirt with a fun high low hem. She was also spotted in another Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 mint striped gown that was for the AFI Festival Red Carpet. Mint has definitely been her go-to color as seen wearing a beaded floral Rochas gown with a mint cardigan for the premiere of her movie Ginger & Rosa as well as wearing a mint and yellow floral beaded Chanel gown to the Critic’s Choice Awards. With her lovely ivory skin and blonde hair, pastels end up being a gorgeous color on her!

What I love so much about Elle Fanning is her daring risks she takes with her fashion along with her knowledge of how to wear high fashion! When I saw the new Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2013 line I thought it was made for Elle! The two ivory and black short suits would look so adorable on her with the tights, shoes, and even the bow headbands! Structure modern suits seams to be her thing as well and I could see her wearing this metallic pewter double breasted suit by Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2013. Since Elle is a huge risk taker with high fashion, I can totally see her pulling off this white beaded dress with a ruffled cape by Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2013 Collection. Elle seems to have the understanding if fashion to wear this cape and make it look really cool and fresh!

We have a lot more to see out if this young talented actress who I think is growing so much everyday into a fashionista! I can’t wait to see her upcoming movie roles in Maleficent as Princess Aurora along with her future fashion picks!

Spring Trend Alert: Pretty in Pastels

With the new year right around the corner we’re all excited about the spring fashion trends, especially pastels! These subdued hues give off light, feminine vibes that can be styled anywhere from flirty to fierce with the right accents. This isn’t a groundbreaking trend either, pastels are spring staples just like florals and light layers, so feel free to indulge in some cool pastels this season! The spring runway shows were bursting with gentle shades of pink, blue, lilac, and green on pants, dresses, bags, you name it. Alexander McQueen‘s honeycomb yellow gown and Dior‘s metallic pastel bubble dresses might be a little harder to pull off, but will monochrome ensembles like Oscar de la Renta‘s rose shorts and sweater and Carolina Herrera‘s preppy blue and cream look inspire some light-colored fashion choices of your own?

If these pleasantly pale colors have caught your eye, you can snag some pastel pieces from ForElyse.com. Nude heels like these Delicious Rigby Pumps are a great way to work the trend with anything from your LBD to jeans, or maybe this Alythea Shimmer Me Timbers Dress in soft pink. I’m personally in love with this tea green Tara Purse and the minty green Sis Sis Stud-Struck Top to mix these lady-like tones into your everyday wardrobe.

Red Carpet Season 2013: 70th Golden Globe Awards

“And the winner is… fashion!” Last night at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, movie and TV stars brought the glitz and glam to the red carpet! In the cool winter afternoon in Beverly Hills, CA, celebrities wore the latest off the high fashion runways and left us stunned! Here are some of the trends from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet!

It Color: Red!

Red was one of the trendiest colors of the night and definitely stood out as a power color! Jennifer Lawrence, who won for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, wore a blood orange red Dior Haute Couture gown accented with a pewter metallic belt that gave it a modern edge! New mom Claire Danes showed off her post baby body in a crimson red Versace gown which complimented her win for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series Homeland. Marion Cotillard wore a swanky red dress by Christian Dior while Zooey Dechanel wore a full princess gown by Oscar de la Renta.

White Hot

White was a smoking color last night and the stars who wore white looked like bombshells! Anne Hathaway looked stunning in a beaded white Chanel dress that had a classic corset bodice and slim skirt that was a statement of sleek elegance.  Lea Michele looked so hot in this beaded ivory Ellis Saab gown that showed off her toned arms and had a sexy high slit to show off some leg! Heidi Klum made us remember why she was kicknamed “The Body,” in this skin tight one shoulder Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress that had a gold jewel detail around the neck and showed off her long model legs! Jennifer Lopez wore a nude and ivory lace Zuhair Murad body con dress that gave the allusion of her wearing nothing but the lace! She got curves for days in that dress!

Back in Black

Black is always a safe move when attending a red carpet, but these stars took major risks with their LBD‘s! Eva Longoria looked gorgeous in the romantic lace Emilio Pucci gown that showed off a lot of cleavage and a lot of leg! Alexander McQueen was a popular designer worn by Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman in these black form fitting dresses that had interesting cutouts and fun embellishments, as expected by the imaginative designs of McQueen! Adele also wore her signature color of black and kept it simple in this 3/4 sleeve dress by Burberry! The new mom gushed about the inspirations of her newborn son and was giddy over her first Golden Globe win for Best Original Song for her song in Skyfall.

Bejeweled

Sparkling on the red carpet in head-to-tow beaded dresses was very appropriate given this event! Kerry Washington looked modern and fresh in this silver encrusted Miu Miu dress that spoke of the 20s trend currently circulating through the tents of fashion week! Sofia Vergara brought the sparkle along with the Va-va-voom as always in a black sequin dress by up-and-coming designer Michael Cinco. Sparkling her way to win the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, Jodie Foster gave a moving speech in a blue jewel Giorgio Armani dress that made her look like a true movie star! Hayden Panettiere had one of her best red carpet moments in this white beaded Roberto Cavalli gown that made her glitter and shine like a diamond!

Pastel Dreams

With pastels being a huge trend during the Spring 2013 Collections of New York Fashion Week, many stares opted for softer hued gowns. Best Actress winner Jessica Chastain looked like a mermaid in this soft sea foam blue Calvin Klein dress that looked like a waterfall as she walked. Amy Adams looked lovely in a pale pink gown by Marchesa gown and Megan Fox wore a similar pale peach  Dolce & Gabbana lace gown. Spring colors were definitely awakened when Rosario Dawson wore this mint peplum Antonio Berardi gown that had an edgy structure that complemented the soft colors. Peachy keen was the mood set by Jessica Alba in a peach mermaid Oscar de la Renta gown and Amanda Seyfried in a lace light peach Givenchy dress.

The 70th Golden Globe red carpet was so fun to watch and the stars pulled out their best to set off red carpet season with a bang! Can’t wait to see what they wear next!

Winter Trend Alert: Leather

Wanna feel like a bad girl? Up your confidence level with one of the sexiest winter trends: leather! Seen on all of the runways of Fashion Week, designers like Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu, and Alexander Wang among many others have embrace this hardcore head-to-toe leather look! Even celebrities on the red carpet like Halle Berry and Gweneth Paltrow have been spotted in their luxurious leathers looking absolutely stunning and in control!

Get the Look:

The fun thing about the leather trend is mixing it with a softer essence to give you the soft and hard trend look! If you want to start subtly, find a dress that has leather accents. Something like the Solemio Thief in the Night Dress is a great day-to-night dress that has fun leather racer beach details that is a surprise when you turn around! If you are more daring and into the bad girl look, slip into the Solemio Fire and Ice Dress color block dress that has a leather bustier top and flowing A line skirt!

Paris Fashion Week: Haute Couture Flowers of Alexander McQueen

Flowering fashions of Alexander McQueen are blooming through the tents of Paris Fashion Week! Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2012 Collection expresses inspirations of spring flowers. As the clothing sprung to life down the runway, there was an enchanting immediate sense of Nature and movement throughout every single piece. From bold vibrant colors to muted pastels, the designs of McQueen express Avant Garde characteristics as if the flowers from Alice in Wonderland came to life and put on a pair of stilettos!

Many of Alexander McQueen’s pieces resemble the shape and color of flowers. The first one to catch my eye was this circular light pink ensemble that resembles a blooming hydrangea with its intricate detailing and shape! The fabric pulled away from the belted center and the shades of pink continued to lighten as the eye drew closer to the pearl shaped belt!

This neon red piece bounced down the runway with the grace of spring in full bloom as if it were a red geranium blossoming with every step! The fullness of the dress was complimented with a flattering gathered waist and scalloped ruffled skirt. The red ruffled stiletto heels complimented this dress as if they were small blossoms falling off and cascading down the runway with each step!

The next piece was this white whimsical dress with lovely bell sleeves and a full A-line skirt! As magical as this dress was with the small details that made it almost shimmer on the runway, it reminded me of a romantic Casablanca Lily as if it were hanging upside-down as a dress for this fierce model! Can you say Couture Avant Garde wedding dress? I think yes!

The last flower inspired piece resembled a purple Iris when it was in full bloom during the spring season. The shoulders cascaded with this lovely delicate purple fabric, a gathered waist, and short A-line skirt that was as beautiful and soft as petals!

This collection not only commands a strong point of view but every piece has so much flirtatious movement that is so fetching to the eye. The Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 Collection is simply breathtaking and transports the wearer to a futuristic garden!

Paris Fashion Week 2012: Makeup Trends

Paris Fashion Week 2012 is in full swing and the creativity among the different designers is pouring out with each model that saunters down the runway! One intriguing factor of fashion week is not only the gorgeous lines but the choice of makeup the designers use to emphasize their ensembles. The trend this year among designers alike has been much focus on or around the eyes. Bold eye shadows, glitter brows, colored mascara and even futuristic visors have been the spotted on many models from the shows of Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Stella McCartney! Being playful with the eyes emphasizes the overall look without taking away from the clothing!

Miu Miu Fall Collection 2012 runway show consisted of eye makeup that reflected tribal elements! Every model had a shimmer white eye shadow with layers of light blue and was accent with black dots in patterns that were unique to every model’s look and face. Miu Miu created looks that were tribal inspired for the modern woman!

Contrasting to this was Alexander McQueen who focused on the eye with interesting Visor Shades that most would register as futuristic and very Haute Couture! The harshness of the shades pair nicely with the soft and structure pieces that glided down the runway. Futuristic but soft all wrapped into one!

Chanel Fall 2012 runway show was menswear inspired looks with a futuristic twist on the makeup! Each model had a clean natural look with silver, blue, or purple glitter eyebrows! The focus on the eyebrows gave a masculine feel to this collection, but some to me reminded me of Spock from Star Trek, or Spock’s sister at least! The glitter eyebrows made this collection a strong one that was wearable for very confident and assured woman!

Blue was the favorite color of mascara for designer Stella McCartney during her Fall 2012 Runway show! McCartney’s models had a fresh clean face with bright
blue mascara. The little color in their eyelashes made them look soft without drawing too much attention away from the clothes. The blue mascara made the models look fresh, awake, and almost gave them a twinkle when the light hit their eyes!
