Street Chic Snapshots!

Everywhere I go I seem to get whiplash from all of the fabulous dressers and fashions I see just on my daily walk to work! In the spirit of style and fashion, we are starting our new blog series “Street Chic Snapshots!” In these blog posts we want to find regular pedestrians with fabulous style! Our first fashionista is Desiree Mason who I met in line for a dance show on the California State University, Chico campus. Her adorable lace dress and brown cowboy boots immediately caught my eye but it was her light mint bag that sealed the deal for me! I had to approach her and have her as the first of our street fashions!

Style Tip: How to Wear Mint Skinny Jeans

Finally our mint skinny jeans have arrived!! That’s right! Our shipment of Flying Monkey’s in Spearmint have finally come into our stores and our online site! So you may be thinking, yeah these are so cute but what would I wear with them? Don’t fret, because this week’s style tip is how to wear mint colored skinny jeans! I know this bright color can be super intimidating but you need to have them in your wardrobe! Many bloggers and celebrities alike have been showcasing these fabulous colored jeans and has been one of the most popular pastel colors this spring season!

 

First things first: if you are a little cautious to wear this color, some of the best colors to wear with color are any shade of white whether it be ivory, cream, off white, eggshell, and so on. Since the jeans are so bright you want to make sure you compliment it with a neutral color that won’t take away from the jeans. Get the Coachella Look Without Even Attending!

So… I am still so sad that I was not able to attend the Coachella Music Festival this past weekend and am so envious of the girls with their hippie flower child looks! But I figured, just because I could not attend this year does not mean that I can’t get the looks! I love all of the original ensembles that seemed to be free yet trendy at the same time! So I thought I would do a little research in the hopes of attending next year and try to find the most Coachella inspired looks for me and for you!

The key to dressing in Coachella fashions is manly about comfort! You have to be comfortable in what you are wearing or you will definitely be having a miserable time! A romantic top like the Love Stitch Polo Match Blouse in White is perfect for a colder day or night event. The romantic lace adds a touch of Boho edge while be delicately feminine at the same time! You can also truly channel your inner hippie with the Sis Sis Flower Child Top in Blue! This relaxed free-flowing top has a blue tie-dye print with spaghetti straps and off the shoulder details! Perfectly relaxing and sexy all in one! An Exquisit Artform: The Ballerina Project

Ballet is an old art form that has been admired and somewhat misunderstood for a long time. Only those who have had training in ballet know the physical and emotional tasks to master this craft. But through all of the endless hours of classes, technique, and long nights, the soul of a dancer is one that is filled with determination, passion, and artistry. That’s why New York photographer Dane Shitagi began working on The Ballerina Project about 10 years ago. The focus of this mass collection of photographs was to showcase the heart and soul of a ballerina contrasted with the urban settings around them. The emotion that is conveyed in the photos show a ballerina for who she is and what she has worked toward her entire life. The composition of photography, fashion, and advanced ballerinas from various dance companies and schools created this whimsically beautiful collection of what it means to be a ballerina in the 21st Century. Seeing ballerinas in alight that is so vulnerable really makes the viewer appreciate the work that has been put in to get them where they are now as a dancer.  Being a dancer myself, it made me admire these women who have become role models for little boys and girls all over the world but ambassadors of the world of dance! The love of dance is like a fire that burn in every dancer and is easily spread to the next. I cannot express my gratitude to Shitagi for his contribution to the world of dance!

All Chalked Up: Colored Tips

Adding some color to your do is something that has been very popular this time of year! Celebs like Katy Perry, Kelly Osbourne, and even Joan Rivers have added a little and a lot of pastel colors to their normal locks! But you may be thinking, this is way to big of a step to dye your hair a crayon color, but here is a quick DIY fix that will wash out: Chalk Tips! That’s right! You can have temporary colored tips and highlights that are so easy to do yourself, super cheap, and completely safe on your hair! Whether you are attending a themed party, Electric Daisy Carnival, or just feeling daring, this fun colorful twist is perfect for jumping off the cliff of your style boundaries! I know this all looks really complicated, but trust me using chalk to temporarily color your hair is very simple! Here is what you will need:

  • Soft Pastel Chalk (DO NOT get oil based because it will be a little harder to get out)
  • A bristle brush
  • ( If you have dark hair, wet it before you apple the chalk. If you have lighter or blonde hair DO NOT wet it because it could leave a stain.)

All you have to do is twist the ends of your hair and run the chalk over the twisted section. Untwist the section and lightly brush through the color removing any excess powder. The colors will naturally fade throughout the day and to completely remove, brush through your hair and shampoo and condition to add moisture back into your tips. If Woodstock’s had a more mellow cleaner cousin, it would be the Coachella Music Festival 2012 taking place in Indio, CA throughout the month of April! Not only does the festival feature great recording artists like Florence + The Machine, Radiohead, The Black Keys, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog but also endless booths of food, drinks, and shopping for the attendee! The best part about this huge music festival is the eclectic mix of fashions that of people who attend! No matter how out there you get, everyone is here for the music and freely to express themselves by their attire! Some get more creative while others go a more chic look following trends with a sense of flower child in their present wardrobe! The Lighter Side: Ombre Highlights

Golden hues peeking out from under brunette lustrous locks seems to be on every celebrity in sight! What is this trend you may be wondering, its Ombre Highlights! I know its a little strange, believe me when I first saw this look I thought all of these stars hadn’t had their roots done in forever. Once I took a closer look I began to really love it! Celebs like Lily Aldridge, Drew Barrymore, Lauren Conrad, and so many more are taking on this dramatic hairstyle! I absolutely love this California look because it reminds me of being at the beach, feeling the sand in my toes, and the water rushing past my ankles. Perfect for summer and very different then blonde highlights! The Ombre has an edge!

Outfit of the Week: We’re going out!

Hello fashionistas, its time for our Outfit of the Week curtsey of our Stylist Macy who is also our lovely model for this fun look! When you’re going out, sometime you would like to look a little classier then some of those girls who decide to have one too many and lets their skirts ride up! According to Macy, this is the perfect look for going out to a fancy dinner or event or just have a girls night out with your friends! The classiness of the look can be easily transpired to daytime as well for work or an event! Class is the name of the game when it comes to this entire ensemble!

Let’s work from the top down! The unique Sugar Lips Two Faced Top in blue is classy enough to go from day to night! The sheer relaxed top has a black side and a faded white and blue striped pint on the other side.The back is quite interesting as well because it is half black and half white with sleeves that have a slit so you can move more freely! Pair this top with a black tank or bandeau depending on how much skin you are willing to show! Colorful Hues: Pastel Trends for Spring 2012

Who doesn’t love looking as soft as a flower in full bloom! Luckily, you can reflect the light hues of spring since Pastels are hitting all the fashion trends for this upcoming spring season! Yes, colors of pink, yellow, purple, green, mint, cream, peach… and so many more pastel shades are making their way onto the runway, into editorial shoots, and into our stores! My favorite display of pastels was in none other then the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Collection of pastel pieces! Set in a 50′s inspired diner, the key of the shoot was to mix and match pastel shades to create an entirely pastel ensemble! The models glowed as freshly pulled saltwater taffy and you couldn’t help but crave some sweet candy!

 

So “How,” you may be wondering do you take this trend and apply it to your style? Simple! The key is to find great pieces in pastel colors that work for you and your skin tone. Once you find some great solid pieces then you can start to mix and match the colors that work together! You could start with a top like the Solemio Feather Tank in Coral which is a lightweight pastel top that also features a neutral feather print! With this top you could pair the Planet B Colored Jeggings in Yellow! A Whole Latte Art!

Coffee is something that I seriously could not live without! The bold flavors of the crushed beans mingling with milk that has been warmed to the perfect temperature, as to not burn the tongue! Its all so soothing and comforting sitting with a hot cup that has been artfully crafted into the perfect fusion with sepia steam and frothy foam! But sometimes you look down to press the cup to your lips and something stops you. Your barista has cleverly crafted a whimsical heart out of the foam of your latte! A wonderful surprise that makes you more grateful for the cup you have! Latte art is something that I always look forward to seeing from my local coffee shops that I always go to! Many baristas over the years have turned making a latte into an exquisite gentle art form that is evolving everyday! Hearts, leaves, even faces have been folded into the foam of lattes all over the nation and it is becoming more and more popular!

 

 

 

Next time you stop into your local hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, ask if they can do latte art and you might be surprised about what you get! You never know when there could be a talented artist being every cup of coffee!
