Breakout Star: Jennifer Lawrence

The new “it” girl to break onto the scene in Hollywood is none other then Hunger Games Lead Actress Jennifer Lawrence! With the success of the release of her newest movie “The Hunger Games,” Lawrence has become worldly known for her role as young Katniss Evergreen! Her rise to stardom  began when she was 14 and moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling and acting. After appearing in a few MTV “My Super Sweet 16,” commercials, Lawrence was cast in the “The Bill Engvall Show,” as well as movies “Devil You Know,” and “The Poker House.” Jennifer was further recognized for her role in “Winter’s Bone,” which landed her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2010 as well as her blue moves in the the comic action flick “X-Men: First Class.” This month gracing the cover of Glamour Magazine, “The Hunger Games,” has made her a well-known household name! We can look forward to seeing her in “House at the End of the Street,” and “Serena,” coming out in later this year and in 2013! We can definitely expect great things for this talented fresh young woman!

Mustache Movement

I mustache you a question: have you seen the craze for mustaches? The mustache movement  began as a joke and burst into a trend that has spread over America like wildfire! When I first saw the cartoon curled mustache, it was on the inside of my friend’s index finger; held up to her face, it looked like a mini Mario Brothers impersonation! Since then, I have literally seen mustache’s everywhere: on t-shirts, as pillows, as jewelry, and my favorite on coffee mugs! There is even a IPhone and ITouch app called “Stachematic,” where you can take pictures of yourself and insert a mustache over the picture! The best way to wear a mustache is truly with confidence! Whether it be a mustache necklace, ring, or t-shirt, you must own that mustache with pride and power as it were your own! Give Tom Selleck a run for his comb with your mustache pride! America’s Apetite for The Hunger Games

Popcorn under one arm… soda and candy in the other… choose the perfect seat (or the only one that’s left)… America was ready for The Hunger Games! This weekend The Hunger Games sold topped the box office chart with flying colors making a cool $155 Million! Sold out in movie theaters everywhere, eager fans waited with bated breath to see this jaw-dropping movie. Scoring high with viewer and critics alike, the hunger games is a mix of intense fight-t0-the-death sequences and risking all for the sake of humanity! An end of the world type of movie, the story follows the young Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old skilled hunter from a small community called District 12, competes in the games in place of her 12 year old sister in a survival of the fittest type of race. Young Katniss struggles between instincts of survival, her fight for her family, and objective to fight for humanity.   The Hunger Games is truly an epic soon-to-be trilogy that competes with Harry Potter and Twilight. It is too rare that a movie comes around so often that speaks for the coming together of humanity. A great message for the youth of the world to understand the need to stand up for what is right!

Falling From the Heavens: Whimsical Burberry Porsum Fashion Show

Sometimes something as delicate as snow can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary! My obsession for fashion shows is certainly growing especially for the more artistic shows such as the Burberry Porsum Fall 2012 Fashion Show! As usual, Burberry created a line with chic and sophisticated looks for the modern Manhattan woman! Dark colors and fabulous separates such as trench coats, skirts, tops, and pants where each complimented with a feminine belt and gloves as each model fiercely walked down the runway. The finale was when the magic started to happen! As the models came out for their final walk, each was carrying a Burberry umbrella, or parasol if you will, while soft snow flakes began to fall from the ceiling. The allusion of the snowing inside left the viewers with an inspiration of winter as these clothes proved to be functional for the cold weather months! The snow falling enchanted the runway creating a whimsical daydream that left the audience and critics breathless!

Spring Hair: Garlands of Flowers

Do you remember the days when you couldn’t wait for the flowers to bloom? When you were a little girl, or boy, and raced as fast as you could to that bush of flowers that never disappointed to bloom when spring arrived. I remember! I would always try to hold as many as my little hands could in a bouquet and any stragglers I would put in my hair or attempt to assemble a garland! I may be grown up now but I still love garlands of flowers and they certainly have not gone out of style! One of the the hair trends for this upcoming spring is garlands of flowers for your hair! Many fashion magazines and clothing brands have used garlands for editorial or campaign shoots to convey the softness that flowers can bring along with a sense of femininity and bright colors! Garlands can give you a mixture of style between a Boho goddess and a Woodstock flower child! You may be thinking, “Yeah this is beautiful but I haven’t the slightest idea how to make one!” Garlands do take a little time but it seriously pays off in the end! If you are an arts-and-crafts person, you will love this for spring! If you are using fresh flowers, try the model below where you take a sturdy twine and needle and thread the flowers one by one, securing them with an additional thread, until a garland forms. Secure the ends together and tie a ribbon to the back to dangle through your hair! You can always use fake flowers for this as well and it will obviously last longer. You just want to make sure: if you get the fake flowers with the wire as a stem to weave the needle through the plastic casing. So go pick, or buy, some of your favorite flowers and construct a hair garland! You will get so many compliments on it and will definitely stand out as a manifestation of a spring nymph!

Style Tips: How to Wear Sheer Clothing

Wearing sheer clothing can seriously be a challenge. Knowing what the right undergarments are for a sheer piece of clothing can either make or break an outfit!I know I have had my difficulties with sheer clothing and this week’s style tip is how to wear sheer clothing!

When wearing something sheer you need to take into account a couple different questions: what function are you going to, which is the right undergarment, will this be appropriate, and are you really going to be comfortable wearing this piece? When answering the first question, think about the occasion you are going to. If this is a wedding or family function, you’ll most likely want to wear a color complimenting tank underneath like the Zenana tanks below because you don’t want to be showcasing your goods to your grandparents or anyone else for that matter!

The question of which is the right undergarment to wear is a judgement call on your behalf. If you are wearing a white blouse, then pair it with a white or tan tank underneath. You can even pair it with a colorful tank if you like. If you want to showcase a little more skin and go with the essence of the top being sheer, you can always pair a bandeau bra with your top. I like to pair a colorful bandeau bra with a top that is in the same color scheme. For example, if I am wearing a sheer orange top, I might pair a nude bandeau or a floral print bandeau that is more red. The choice is up to you but I try to incorporate my bandeau into my look and not just try to hide it! When you think about “will this be appropriate” goes back to what kind of function you are going to. If you’re going out dancing with your friends, a sheer top would be fun and sexy but would not be the same if you were going to a family dinner, at least with my family! If you were attending a family function you might pair it with a tank, otherwise wear it with a bandeau bra for a sexier look!

The last question is a big one that I always have to ask myself when I am in the dressing room before I even buy sheer clothing: will you be comfortable in this? If you find yourself constantly adjusting the clothing or don’t like the line of your pant being seen this is probably not the right top for you. You want to feel at your very best when you wear clothing and it should reflect your personality and personal style. If you are constantly picking or adjusting it, you are taking away from people looking at you for you. They will be able to read that you are uncomfortable! If you are daring enough to wear a sheer top like the Solemio Mia Top in Cobalt Blue, pair it with a nude bandeau pictured below or you could pair it with a navy bandeau or tank. Whatever makes you feel the best!

So remember, when buying something that is sheer think about where and when you will wear it, what to wear under it, and if you will really be comfortable in it!
