Outfit Of The Week: Black & White

We here at For Elyse love spring because we get to see tons of florals, pastels and lace. As much as we love the feminine trend, sometimes it can be refreshing to get back to basics. With that in mind, our theme for the Outfit Of The Week is black & white.

White Tank Top Studs and Matching Necklace

The possibilities for this trend are endless, and difficult as it was to choose just one outfit, we finally decided on the Flying Monkey Coated Leggings, the True Stud Top from Sis Sis, Urban Expressions Sass Attack Clutch, a pair of black wedges, trendy bauble necklace and a pair of black sunglasses (in store only).

Faux Leather Leggings

We love these Flying Monkey leggings, because although they look and photograph like black leather pants, they’re made of the trademark Flying Monkey comfy material, and fit really well. In the trend of pairing hard with soft, we matched the black leggings with the floaty Sis Sis top for a tough, yet feminine look. The over sized clutch was an easy choice, as these large, envelope-style clutches are really popular right now and give your look an injection of vintage flair.

Style Challenge: Chambray Shirts

Introducing Chambray into your wardrobe is an easy way to inject a classic/clean feel into your look, but it can be tricky to style. This week we thought it would be fitting to show you some easy ways to wear Chambray. First for a casual look, Paige wore our BLVD Blue Skies Top (available in store only),  Lucy Paris Lace Shorts, and the Sis Sis Tube Top.

Chambray Shirt OutfitIn our next look, we have Paige in the Flying Monkey Jeggings, the BLVD Into the Blue top, The Jillian Handbag, some nude wedges, a pair of lavender sunglasses and a long gold necklace. I love this look because while it looks really fresh and clean, it’s not overly fussy or complicated.

Battle On The Red Carpet: Spring Breakers Edition

It’s probably safe to say that one of the more controversial movies released this spring was Spring Breakers. Disney Channel Alums Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens co-star in this gratuitous spring break romp, and each made their own unique mark on the red carpet at the premiere. At the Los Angeles premiere, Selena Gomez wore a stunning, belted, cherry red gown by Reem Acra. With Delicate cutouts and her hair styled in an easy, loose curled style, Gomez looked fantastic. Vanessa Hudgens also chose a statement dress, wearing a Naeem Khan beaded dress with a full, feathered skirt with a high slit to show off her gams (channeling Angelina Jolie, maybe?). In my mind, this round definitely goes to Gomez, as every detail was impeccable and worked well with her natural skin tone.

Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens at Spring Breakers Premiere

At the premiere in Germany, Gomez opted again for a backless number, wearing an edgy Atelier Versace jacket/pants combo. Backless trends can be hard to pull off, but she pulls it off effortlessly. Hudgens also looked great at the German premiere, wearing a Naeem Khan sequined, floral gown. This was a tough call, because I do love the strong, sexy style that Gomez exudes, but this round goes to Hudgens simply because she looked radiant in her floral number.

Spring Breakers German Premiere

At the Paris premiere of Spring Breakers, the girls seemed to both up the ante, and take some fashion risks. Gomez wore a Gucci dress with Jimmy Choo heels, while Hudgens chose Rafael Cennamo dress. Gomez cut a cute figure in a dress that was surprisingly daring with its loose-fitting and low-cut back. Hudgens looked beautiful in her pale pink gown, but the thick fabric and awkward length seemed to add some bulk to her small frame. This round (as you may have guessed), goes to Gomez again, giving her the win! Click on the images above to see our selection of cocktail dresses and share with us who YOU think won!

Style Icon: Jessica Chastain

Tree of Life (2011) saw Jessica Chastain rocket to fame. This statuesque beauty showed a completely different acting range in The Help, playing the “outsider,” Celia Foote. I’ve loved watching her grace the red carpet at each award show, and look forward to any and all movies she appears in. I even lifted my “no horror movies” ban a few months ago to see Mama, wherein she played a tattooed, dark-haired character with a chip on her shoulder, which is a far cry from any roles she’d held up until then. Never one to appear less than polished, Jessica is one of my favorite style icons, and one of the few celebs I have yet to see make a poor choice on the red carpet.

Jessica Chastain Oscars 2013Love Stitch Nashville Dreams Dress

For this year’s Academy Award ceremony, she wore a custom Armani gown with a mermaid silhouette in a soft copper color which flattered both her skin tone and hair color beautifully. The design house described the dress as having a “geometric, lattice-patterned mesh overlay of shimmering white sequins and Swarovski crystals.” She wisely kept the accessories subdued, wearing vintage diamond earrings and a gold and diamond bracelet, both by Harry Winston. To avoid looking too washed out, she wore deep red lipstick and peach eyeshadow with black liquid liner. To try out a similar color palette, try our Love Stitch Nashville Dreams Dress in Ivory. The simple body con tank dress gets a dash of style from layers of ivory floral lace that run in a zigzag pattern with corresponding stripes of white sequins. Easy to dress up or down, this is a go-to dress for date nights and cocktails with your friends.

Lush Raquel Romper

As Celia Foote in The Help, Jessica wore 60′s inspired costumes designed by Sharen Davis (Dreamgirls, Book of Eli, etc). My favorite look of the movie was a lemon yellow romper with fitted bodice, white piping and wide straps. She accessorized with cherry red nail polish, an ivory bangle, cute daisy stud earrings, and (of course), white cat-eye sunglasses with rose colored lenses. Spring is just around the corner, and I can’t wait for the weather to be warm enough for rompers and shorts. To access your inner “Celia Foote,” try our Lush Raquel Romper in black.

Lastly, Jessica proves that redheads absolutely can wear red in this adorable cherry red, belted, mid-length Oscar de la Renta frock. For a similar simple-yet-elegant, garden party-esque  dress, try our Black Crochet Tea Rose Dress from Solemio. It features a high neck in front, with a floral crochet design, and a gorgeous drop back. File this one under, “must-have LBD.”

Spring into Corals

Coral was a hot trend on the 2013 runways, with many designers using it to add a pop of color to their Spring collections. Erdem’s runway was blooming with floral dresses featuring coral highlights, while Dior showed long jackets and simple sheath dresses in the bold and bright color. Gucci presented several pieces in a coral with a pinkish hue, which was paired with matching statement jewelery, and Elie Tahari’s Spring RTW looks featured several head-to-toe coral looks.

If any of these looks are inspiring you to add more coral to your closet for Spring, For Elyse has you covered. The Alythea Good Feeling Dress and the Lush Country Strong Dress are perfect to see you through the upcoming summer’s hottest days. The breezy Sis Sis Tail-or Made Top will have you looking stylish at work, and the Solemio Butterfly Effect Top is just the thing you need for summer nights at the farmer’s market. If you’re looking for a more subtle touch of coral, the City Classified Linen Twist Flat would look great with a skinny jean or skirt, while the Gold Drop Earring is the perfect complement to wear to a summer wedding.

Red Carpet Season: Oscars Best/Worst Dressed

Red carpet season is at a wrap and went out with a a bang at the 2013 Academy Awards in Hollywood, California! Celebrities brought out their best for the Oscar red carpet and there were so many that did not disappoint! But as always there were a few that lingered the question, “What were you thinking?!” Here are my best and worst picks from the 2013 Oscar Red carpet!

Best Dressed:

Hands down, best dressed had to be Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive! The Zero Dark Thirty best actress nominee looked like a true movie star in this nude curve hugging gown that had a detailed beaded design that just enhanced her form! The color of the gown really complimented her red hair that she wore half parted with curls along with modern earrings and a red lip to tie the whole look together! Jessica may not have won the Oscar, but she won in my heart as Best Dressed!

Runner Up for Best Dressed:

Big winner of the night, Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in this white Dior Haute Couture gown! Even though Jennifer took a tumble walking up the stairs to accept her award, she looked gorgeous while falling! With her hair back and simple diamond earrings, Jennifer made this structured almost bridal looking dress look young and fresh with a thin chain necklace that she wore backwards! Way to go Jennifer! We love you just the way you are!

Best Dressed List:

There were so many great looks on this red carpet it was so hard to choose who was the best! Nominee Amy Adams looked soft and elegant in a grey ruffle Oscar De La Renta gown that made her look like she was floating down the red carpet. Trend-setter Kerry Washington looked spring-y fresh in a coral beaded Miu Miu gown that complimented her lovely skin. Performer and former Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson, wore something different with this blue scale Roberto Cavalli gown that showed off all of her hard work on her body and long straight black hair with bangs screen diva!! One thing I love about Zoe Saldana is that she always takes fashion risks and she certainly did in this Alexis Mabille high low gown that looked stunning on her! Performer and former Best Actress winner Charlize Theron showed off her new pixie hair for a recent roll and statuesque form in this white peplum Christian Dior gown. Going with an edgier gun metal metallic dress, nominee Naomi Watts looked amazing in this custom Armani Prive that made her one of the best on the red carpet!

Worst Dressed:

Sorry to say, but Anne Hathaway was my worst dressed of the night, not like she would care since she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Les Miserables. Even though I am so happy for her, I expected a lot more from her as a nominee to pull out all the stops. This was her moment and when I looked at this Prada gown, all I could see was her nipples which was so distracting. Anne commented that she was supposed to wear a Valentino and that probably would have been the better choice.

Dream Come True: Marchesa Fall 2013 Collection

When I saw the Marchesa Fall 2013 Runway show at NY Fashion Week, like always I was blown away! Marchesa is so dedicated to crafting not just clothes but works of art. Their unique composition of embroidered detailing, perfect tailoring, and feminine structures allows them to create gorgeous one-of-a-kind pieces. This collection wash not a let down! With a romantic baroque theme, Marchesa played with soft shapes that worked well with floral embroidered fabric along with structured gowns and pant suits; there was something for everyone in this collection! I know that we can definitely expect to see star lights wearing some of these gowns down the red carpet and will be praised for Best Dressed because Marchesa is made for stars!

Heart on a Sleeve: Burberry Fall 2013 Heart- Inspired Runway

Love was in the air at the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2013 Runway show at New York Fashion Week! With the inspirations of Valentine’s Day, star-crossed models walked in Burberry fashions that struck your heart as soon as they turned the corner. With a color pallet of red, black, white, and taupe, the collection lent a romantic vibe with heart printed dresses, feminine cut coats, and sexy curve hugging body con dresses! Burberry kicked up the heat with the use of leather, studs, gold collars and belts along with a series of heart shaped stones on a few of the dresses. Burberry’s easy-to-wear collection a fantasy that jetted us to Paris to find our true love!

Pow! Bam! Zap! Tom Ford Fall 2013 Runway Show

Pow! Boom! Crack! New York Fashion Week was blown away with the comic book influences for Tom Ford Fall 2013 Collection that opened with a BANG!  Ford played with prints, textures, and color schemes! From vibrant floral printed pants, to black and white tribal printed dress, Ford experimented with what “matches” and it worked! Not only was his work experiential, but incorporated bright graphic designs that resembled punches and blows from a child’s comic book! This collection was so fun and the way he worked in bright colors with contrasting textures kept it young in fresh when Fall sometimes can look drab. Tom Ford’s funky collection left fashion week with a giant KAH-POW!
