Outfit Of The Week: Black & White

We here at For Elyse love spring because we get to see tons of florals, pastels and lace. As much as we love the feminine trend, sometimes it can be refreshing to get back to basics. With that in mind, our theme for the Outfit Of The Week is black & white.

White Tank Top Studs and Matching Necklace

The possibilities for this trend are endless, and difficult as it was to choose just one outfit, we finally decided on the Flying Monkey Coated Leggings, the True Stud Top from Sis Sis, Urban Expressions Sass Attack Clutch, a pair of black wedges, trendy bauble necklace and a pair of black sunglasses (in store only).

Faux Leather Leggings

We love these Flying Monkey leggings, because although they look and photograph like black leather pants, they’re made of the trademark Flying Monkey comfy material, and fit really well. In the trend of pairing hard with soft, we matched the black leggings with the floaty Sis Sis top for a tough, yet feminine look. The over sized clutch was an easy choice, as these large, envelope-style clutches are really popular right now and give your look an injection of vintage flair.

Music’s Biggest Night: 2013 Grammy Awards Best/Worst Dresses

Best Dressed Winner: Rihanna in Alaia
Rihanna
stunned everyone with her appearance in this coral red custom Alaia chiffon dress! The sheer panels in the front showed off a little skin while the open back and long train created an air of elegance! Not only did the dress look gorgeous on her, but her hair, makeup and accessories screamed “Star!” Rihanna by far won best dressed in my eyes because she surprised me with such a soft feminine look when she tends to dress hard and edgy. Love this look from Rihanna!

Runners up for Best Dressed:

Rihanna was not the only star who brought the glam on the Grammy’s red carpet! Kelly Rowland brought the meaning of “cutouts” to like in this Georges Chakra gown! Katy Perry never looked better in this mint green Gucci gown that showed off her best assets! Jennifer Lopez had a leg on the competition in a black satin Zuhair Murad gown that also complimented her flawless hair and makeup! New mom Alicia Keys brought bondage back in this black Alaia gown that showed off her rockin bod with fun cutouts!

Mad for Musical Men:

Sticking with the classics, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z looked so handsome in modern tuxedos with with a bow-tie for a classic edge! Blue was a popular color on the carpet for most musical men from Grammy nominee Frank Ocean, John Mayer, Drake, and John Legend. No one was singing the blues when these guys walked the red carpet!

Worst Dressed: Beyonce

Sorry B, you looked amazing at the Super Bowl Half Time Show, but this jumpsuit by Osman Studio was not glam enough for the Grammy Awards! The Grammy’s are all about expressing yourself as an artist and this was just blah. The fit did show off her curves and her amazing behind, but I’ve seen her look better was disappointed in this look. Turn up the heat next time! We know you have it, we actually watched the Super Bowl Show!

New York Fashion Week Fav’s: Moncler Gamme Rogue

In the spirit of Halloween, I saved the best for last in our series of favorite designers from Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week! One of the wackiest and most acclaimed shows was by Moncler Gamme Rouge in his couture resort wear Spring 2013 Fashion Show! Rouge put on a show that literally catapulted the audience into the future with Japanese inspired looks that had a touch of mod. All of the looks, including the bell boys, reminded me of the 90s movie”The 5th Element” in regards to the fashions worn by the futuristic flight attendants. If ti was the year 2506 and i was going on vacation to a total tropical island in the Andromeda galaxy, I would certainly rock all of Moncler Gamme Rouge‘s looks! Quite inspiring I must say!

Red Carpet Season: Trends from the Emmys

Glitz, glamor, and don’t forget to roll out the red carpet! Its my favorite time of the year: the beginning of the red carpet season has just been kicked off with the Prime Time Emmy Awards! TV’s most infamous stars were dressed to impress during the Los Angeles event! What I love most about the Emmys, is that it always takes place at the end of the summer when the weather is still warm and the trends are still as hot as ever!

One of the best trends that was on the Emmy Red Carpet had to be the cool Citrus Breeze that was oh-so-refreshing! Leading ladies such as Julie Bowen, Claire Danes, and Julianne Moore wore more of a neon citrus while ladies such as Kaley Cuoco and Leslie Mann wore gowns with an orange tint! Needless to say, these trends spoke loud and clear on the red carpet and was a breath of fresh air!

If you wanted to see a fish out of water, you definitely saw it on the red carpet this year! Many stars chose the “Fish of the Sea” trend that sported many blue hues that looked as deep as the ocean! Stars like Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad and Julianne Hough wore gorgeous ocean colored gowns with incredible detailing that resembled fish scales! Zoe Dechanel and Heidi Klum were as romantic as a rippling reflection in pale pastel blues, while Hayden Panettiere looked like a mermaid caught in a fisherman’s net that left me breathless!

Red is always a great color to wear to an award show because of its strong presence and feminine touch! Many stars looked  absolutely ravishing in red like Kat Dennings in a ruched deep red gown by J. Mendel and Cat Deely in a structured bright red couture gown from Tadashi Shoji. But the stunner of the night in my opinion was definitely comedic actress and writer, Tina Fey, who wore a dark maroon Vivienne Westwood dress that featured a gold embroidered bodice that looked straight out of 18th century Madrid!

The Emmy Awards did not disappoint as far as the red carpet went! Celebs came dressed to impress and there were hardly any worst dressed this year! Way to step it up! We can’t wait for the rest of the red carpet season to pick up and dream about wearing all of those designer gowns!

People We’re Down With: Lana Del Rey

If you were to find yourself in an underground jazz bar with a foggy disposition and dimly lit with red vintage lanterns scattered amongst round tables for a body or two, your night would be complete while listening to the sultry sounds of Lana Del Rey. Known as an eclectic mix of Nancy Sinatra with 60s Americana, Lana Del Rey is one of the rising Indie recoding artists who does not fear pushing the limits in her lyrics and her appearance. A true artist at heart, Del Rey draws on her influences from her childhood in New York along with her battle with alcohol dependence, past lovers, and inspirations from the Latin community. Not only have her jazzy unique sounding voice captured our eyes and ears, but also her unique fashion sense that seems to reflect a soft and hard motif along with 70s inspirations as seen in magazines like UK Vogue. Her album covers are true works of art, such as “Serial Killer,” and “Unreleased” which are less then conventional but somewhat refreshing as they are daring. Del Rey’s biggest hits “Born to Die,” and “Video Games” helped put her on the map of recording artists and her popularity continues to grow with her unique look and sound! We certainly cannot get enough of Lana Del Rey and if you give her a listen, you will soon find yourself catapulted to a world where only jazz creates movement with every note.

One of her songs we can’t stop listening to is “Serial Killer,” because of its haunting lyrics and 70s indie feel! Take a listen!
