Ideas to Decorate Your Halloween Pumpkin

Every year I so look forward to carving pumpkins in preparation for Halloween but every year I find myself racking my brain for new ideas. To inspire not only myself but also you, I found some super easy and fun fashionable ways to decorate your pumpkin for this truly spooky holiday!

Bling-ed Out

What girl doesn’t love to sparkle? I seriously fell in love when I cam across this perfectly glittery patch of pumpkins! Its super easy to do as well! All you need is some rhinestone in all different shapes and sized (preferably ones used for scarp booking) and some super glue! Make sure you wash your pumpkin before apply any jewels, add some glue to the back of the gems and start sticking!

Chevron it to Me!

One of my favorite prints from this season has got to be the chevron print so I though, “Why not put that on a pumpkin!” (Light-bulb!) All you need is some painting tape and your favorite color paint! just tape off the pumpkin in a chevron print and paint over the exposed areas. Let sit to dry and peel off the tape! Voulah! A fashionable chic chevron printed pumpkin!

All Wrapped Up!

If you want to go for a more whimsical dark and ominous feeling on your front porch, just wrap your pumpkins in black tulle and secure with some fun colored ribbon! Its super cheap, easy, and will add a level of sophistication and magic to your festive fall setting!

Aces High Costume

Simple white strapless dress

or

3 Yards of white fabric

White thread

Red or black thread

A few sewing needles

Safety pins

Iron on fabric and stencils

If you are making a dress it is actually really simple. Just take the white fabric and measure it to your body. Use the safety pins to pin up both sides of your body where it fits snug, leaving the extra fabric hanging. Hand stitch up the sides with the thread leaving in the safety pins as your guide. Once you have it fitted, cut out of the iron on fabric in the shapes of an “A”and whatever particular suit you choose. Iron on the pieces and just for some extra support, do a small hand stitch in the corners of the stencils. Pair with corresponding black or red shoes and you are ready!

Friday Favoite: What a Stud!

What is that studly object on her sleeve… and her shoes… and her nails?!  How could anyone miss the Stud trend that has been taking over every fashion item in America! Studs have become the new fashion crazy and you can literally put them anywhere such as a jacket, bra, shorts, and even your nails! Studs have become so popular and make it very easy to turn your trendy wardrobe into a rockers dream!

One of my favorite studded pieces has been a strapless bra, but they are so hard to find studded and when you do its kind of expensive! Well I have the solution for you:a DIY Studded Bra Tutorial! This Bra looks great paired with a high waist-ed high low skirt or maxi skirt. You can even do this with a bustier that adds more coverage or even a tube top that has a built in bra.

Here is what you will need:

  • An Old Strapless Bra (tube top, bustier, etc)
  • A dozen or so Studs
  • A pair of pliers
  • A knife

Step One: Take the knife and make a small slit where you want to stud to be.

Step Two: Add the stud and bend down the tines in the back

Repeat step one and two to created a studded pattern that is flattering to your shape! That’s it! A fab studded bra super fast and for about half the price of a pre-made one! Then you will have the satisfaction to say when you receive compliments, “I made it myself!’

Crafty Monday: Sweater Legwarmers

Fall is coming up fast and boy we cannot wait! This year I am so serious about making my own legwarmers to go under my boots, which was a hug trend that took off at the end of last winter and is blazing on for this upcoming fall! Since legwarmers can kind of be on the pricier side, I decided to share with you my “Girl on a Budget” DIY Sweater socks! Its super simple and somewhat environmentally friendly because we are going to make legwarmers from recycling an old sweater! Easy right!

Here is what you will need:

  • An old sweater
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread that matches the color of your sweater

Step One: Take you old sweater and lie it on a flat surface

Step Two: Use your scissors to cut along the arm of the sweater two inches below the shoulder

Step Three: Take your needle and thread and  gently make a loop stitch just to keep the cut part from fraying

Ta-Da! You have an adorable pair of legwarmers that literally cost nothing. You can make the legwarmers whatever size and color you want. So now you finally have something to do with those old worn out sweaters tat have been sitting in your donate pile!

Happy Crafting!

All Chalked Up: Colored Tips

Adding some color to your do is something that has been very popular this time of year! Celebs like Katy Perry, Kelly Osbourne, and even Joan Rivers have added a little and a lot of pastel colors to their normal locks! But you may be thinking, this is way to big of a step to dye your hair a crayon color, but here is a quick DIY fix that will wash out: Chalk Tips! That’s right! You can have temporary colored tips and highlights that are so easy to do yourself, super cheap, and completely safe on your hair! Whether you are attending a themed party, Electric Daisy Carnival, or just feeling daring, this fun colorful twist is perfect for jumping off the cliff of your style boundaries! I know this all looks really complicated, but trust me using chalk to temporarily color your hair is very simple! Here is what you will need:

  • Soft Pastel Chalk (DO NOT get oil based because it will be a little harder to get out)
  • A bristle brush
  • ( If you have dark hair, wet it before you apple the chalk. If you have lighter or blonde hair DO NOT wet it because it could leave a stain.)

All you have to do is twist the ends of your hair and run the chalk over the twisted section. Untwist the section and lightly brush through the color removing any excess powder. The colors will naturally fade throughout the day and to completely remove, brush through your hair and shampoo and condition to add moisture back into your tips. Go for your temporary edgy color tips quick fix with these easy steps! Mix and match any color to correspond with your outfit or occasion and have fun getting a lot of compliments on your new look! ~ <3

Colorful Hues: Pastel Trends for Spring 2012

Who doesn’t love looking as soft as a flower in full bloom! Luckily, you can reflect the light hues of spring since Pastels are hitting all the fashion trends for this upcoming spring season! Yes, colors of pink, yellow, purple, green, mint, cream, peach… and so many more pastel shades are making their way onto the runway, into editorial shoots, and into our stores! My favorite display of pastels was in none other then the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Collection of pastel pieces! Set in a 50′s inspired diner, the key of the shoot was to mix and match pastel shades to create an entirely pastel ensemble! The models glowed as freshly pulled saltwater taffy and you couldn’t help but crave some sweet candy!

So “How,” you may be wondering do you take this trend and apply it to your style? Simple! The key is to find great pieces in pastel colors that work for you and your skin tone. Once you find some great solid pieces then you can start to mix and match the colors that work together! You could start with a top like the Solemio Feather Tank in Coral which is a lightweight pastel top that also features a neutral feather print! With this top you could pair the Planet B Colored Jeggings in Yellow! These jeans are made to show off your curves and don’t be afraid of this color because you will definitely stand out f0r being so bold in this pastel pant!

Another great look that is all pastels is the Cecico Layers of Love Top in Ivory and the Planet B Colored Jegging in Lavender! The top is a light ivory color and has gentle layered stripes of sheer fabric and lace! Perfect when paired with bandeau bra or a tank underneath depending on how much skin you want to show! This soft feminine top looks amazing paired with the Lavender Jegging that is curve hugging and really showcases you legs! You will look soft and feminine while standing out at the same time while everyone else wears normal denim jeans!

Lastly, you can always pair a pastel piece with a more neutral pair of jeans, shorts, skirt, or top if you do not feel like being all “pastel-ed” out. Try something simple and delicate like the Sis Sis Diamond in the Ruffle Tube Top in Lemon! Perfectly bright for Spring or Summer, this seer gorgeous top has a ruffled layer around the bust that has small diamond shaped cutouts! A detail that gives this top an extra pump above the rest! A popular dressier pastel piece is the Blu Pepper Summer Soiree Top in Peach that is so delicate with lace details, princess pleats down the front and a button up front and back! This top can be dressed up or dressed down and you will certainly have a glow about you when you wear this gentle top!

Pastels are a great trend to be hitting the fashion market for spring because when you wear then not only will you resemble a soft summer breeze but you will also glow with the color you are wearing. Just bring some confidence to owning the color you have on to not be the one who always blends in! Shop all of these pastel looks and more at ForElyse.com!
