Outfit of the Week: Lovely in Lavender! How to Wear Colored Skinny Jeans for Summer

The weather is really starting to warm up, but it’s not time to push all your jeans to the back of the closet yet! For this week’s Outfit of the Week, I styled my lovely friend Kim with our new Flying Monkey skinnies in lavender.

Flying Monkey Skinny Jeans White Lace Top Black Cork Wedges

Colored denim makes rocking skinnies in the summer months look a little fresher, especially with lighter hues like this lavender. Pairing the jeans with a white lace top makes the look super summery, and the Can’t Stop Staring top from Solemio is ultra feminine with the open back, bustier detail and peplum flare. Since the main pieces are so light, the accessories really define the look. A Spring Time in Paris crossbody in white adds a ladylike touch, and a little bright colored jewelry really catches the eye- I picked a bright teal bangle and some earrings to match. And of course no outfit is complete without great shoes, so I added contrast with the Path wedge from Soda in black linen to finish the look.

Outfit of the Week: How to Wear The Great Gatsby Inspired Glam

We’re counting down the days until The Great Gatsby hits theaters on Friday, so this outfit of the week is inspired by the old school glamor the movie portrays. The roaring 20′s are long past, but this look combines great new pieces from ForElyse.com with vintage inspired details for an elegant outfit that’s perfect for work or a date to the premiere!

We dressed Angela in classic black and white, starting with a simple pencil skirt like the Zip Off the Old Block skirt from Alythea. We tucked the Lacey Streak top from Sis Sis into the skirt for a slimmer silhouette and a touch of lace. The top mixes classic and modern style with sheer shoulders and a feminine lace panel, so charming accessories are needed to invoke the retro style.

The Great Gatsby Inspired Style

To really emphasize the 20′s style, have fun with flirty accessories- sexy shoes, an adorable bag, and eye-catching jewels are great ways to work some glitz and glamor into your outfit. We pulled the Giant lace pumps from Speed Limit 98 and the Speed Dial clutch- the lace and quilted patent leather lend themselves to the luxury of the time and are always on trend. A big cocktail ring (we chose a golden flower), some stacked bracelets, and a statement piece like the Snake Charming necklace pull the look together.

Outfit Of The Week: Black & White

We here at For Elyse love spring because we get to see tons of florals, pastels and lace. As much as we love the feminine trend, sometimes it can be refreshing to get back to basics. With that in mind, our theme for the Outfit Of The Week is black & white.

White Tank Top Studs and Matching Necklace

The possibilities for this trend are endless, and difficult as it was to choose just one outfit, we finally decided on the Flying Monkey Coated Leggings, the True Stud Top from Sis Sis, Urban Expressions Sass Attack Clutch, a pair of black wedges, trendy bauble necklace and a pair of black sunglasses (in store only).

Faux Leather Leggings

We love these Flying Monkey leggings, because although they look and photograph like black leather pants, they’re made of the trademark Flying Monkey comfy material, and fit really well. In the trend of pairing hard with soft, we matched the black leggings with the floaty Sis Sis top for a tough, yet feminine look. The over sized clutch was an easy choice, as these large, envelope-style clutches are really popular right now and give your look an injection of vintage flair.

Battle On The Red Carpet: Spring Breakers Edition

It’s probably safe to say that one of the more controversial movies released this spring was Spring Breakers. Disney Channel Alums Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens co-star in this gratuitous spring break romp, and each made their own unique mark on the red carpet at the premiere. At the Los Angeles premiere, Selena Gomez wore a stunning, belted, cherry red gown by Reem Acra. With Delicate cutouts and her hair styled in an easy, loose curled style, Gomez looked fantastic. Vanessa Hudgens also chose a statement dress, wearing a Naeem Khan beaded dress with a full, feathered skirt with a high slit to show off her gams (channeling Angelina Jolie, maybe?). In my mind, this round definitely goes to Gomez, as every detail was impeccable and worked well with her natural skin tone.

Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens at Spring Breakers Premiere

At the premiere in Germany, Gomez opted again for a backless number, wearing an edgy Atelier Versace jacket/pants combo. Backless trends can be hard to pull off, but she pulls it off effortlessly. Hudgens also looked great at the German premiere, wearing a Naeem Khan sequined, floral gown. This was a tough call, because I do love the strong, sexy style that Gomez exudes, but this round goes to Hudgens simply because she looked radiant in her floral number.

Spring Breakers German Premiere

At the Paris premiere of Spring Breakers, the girls seemed to both up the ante, and take some fashion risks. Gomez wore a Gucci dress with Jimmy Choo heels, while Hudgens chose Rafael Cennamo dress. Gomez cut a cute figure in a dress that was surprisingly daring with its loose-fitting and low-cut back. Hudgens looked beautiful in her pale pink gown, but the thick fabric and awkward length seemed to add some bulk to her small frame. This round (as you may have guessed), goes to Gomez again, giving her the win! Click on the images above to see our selection of cocktail dresses and share with us who YOU think won!

Take Me Out To The Ballgame…

Opening Day for Major League Baseball (MLB) is March 31, kicking off with the Astros vs. the Rangers. For all you fashionistas who are MLB fans, (or get dragged to games by their significant others), this post is for you! It can be a challenge when dressing for a baseball game to look stylish yet casual, and still be prepared for possible cold weather as the game stretches from day to night. Never fear! For Elyse is coming to your rescue, with a slew of outfit inspiration, perfect for looking your best at summer sporting events.

If painting your face, or wearing head-to-toe team  colors isn’t your style, but you’d still like to give a nod to your favorite team, consider our extensive collection of eyeshadows! Coming in a wide assortment of colors, our deluxe shadows go on sheer, but can be layered for a stronger look to suit your mood. Although our site has every color under the sun, my two favorites are the Cape Blue, a rich royal blue, and the Silver Blue, a soft, sheer color that looks really fantastic layered with other hues.

Eyeshadows

For a casual look that holds an edge, try the Flying Monkey Color Splash Skinny Jeans in Magenta, paired with the Lush Bringing Lacey Back Top in white. These two pieces work great together, but don’t look too fussy or overly styled.

Baseball Game Outfit

One of the great things about this outfit is that a wide variety of shoe choices will look great, and you can tailor your choice based on what kind of weather you’re contending with. For warm-weather games, try the Delicious Clean Wedges or the City Classified Delva Sandals.

Summer SandalsIf you’re worried that when the sun goes down you might get a little chilly, try the Soda Faddy Flats, or the Fortune Dynamic Oak Boots, which look great with skinny jeans or tights and a skirt.

Shoes To Wear To Baseball Game

Another look I love for any sporting event is the Sis Sis Take Me Out Top, paired with some Flying Monkey Color Splash Jeans in any color. Here I chose to pair them with the Rose color to soften up the look, but they’re really versatile.

Baseball Outfit

Layering is always a great idea for baseball games, as they tend to stretch from day to night. Packing a scarf or jacket is a good call, and something you’ll probably be glad you have later. Try the Butterscotch Infinity Scarf, or the Boho Striped Scarf for an easy look that pairs well with most outfits.

Scarves

Try topping off your look with some jewelry that reads as classy but casual. I love the Tribal Locket, or the Fallen Leaf Necklace. If Earrings are more your speed, try the Helena Earrings,

Jewelry

Lastly, a great bag to take to the game is the Saddle Up Stud Crossbody Bag, which is small and casual, but can still hold your wallet, keys and cell phone.

Outfit of the Week: Airport Style

With Spring Break and summer fast approaching, and (hopefully) many travel plans being made, there’s always the small dilemma of what to wear while traveling. Should you go for glamor or comfort? Style or ease? Well, as someone who’s taken her fair share of flights, I’ve had many opportunities to figure out how to be comfortable without skimping on style! I’ve complied a list of essential airport items, which you’ll see celebs rocking first, and then a head to toe look with all the essentials that you can get from ForElyse.com!

The Shawl Cardigan

It’s almost always chilly on airplanes, so a light sweater or a cardigan is a must. Shawl cardigans are my favorite because they are so comfortable–it’s almost like wearing a cardi and a blanket in one: fitted in the back, but with extra fabric in the front to wrap around yourself and snuggle in while en route.

Both Minka Kelly and Rosie Huntington-Whitely look cozy in their shawl cardigans; I particularity like Rosie’s–doesn’t it look super comfortable?

The Scarf

Scarves are your best friend while you’re traveling. It can add some interest to an otherwise simple outfit, especially since jewelery can be cumbersome with all those metal detectors to contend with. Aside from aesthetic purposes, a scarf can add some warmth when needed, and also serve as an impromptu pillow or neck support when you nod off while in the clouds.

Here are Eva Mendes and Gwyneth Paltrow looking fierce and put together in simple grey scarves, which really pulls their outfits together.

Leggings

It doesn’t get much comfier than a pair of leggings. Simple black leggings are great for traveling because they match just about everything, looks good with boots or flats, and are easy to pack away until your flight home.

Both Reese Witherspoon and Selena Gomez look fab in their relaxed but chic travel looks, both built around a simple pair of black leggings.

Boots

If you’re flying from the anywhere in the United States, you’re going to have to remove your shoes to go through the security check–it’s no fun, but there’s no getting around it! Flats are nice and easy to remove, but if you’re wearing them without socks or tights, the idea of walking where so many bare feet have been before might not be so appealing. Therefore, I’d recommend boots as the best option to keep things easy and stylish. If you can find a pair that either slip on or zip up, even better! The key is to make sure they’re easy to take off and put back on, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time blocking the flow of traffic while putting your shoes back on.

Here’s Elizabeth Olsen making her way to Charles de Gaulle while wearing a pair of worn lace ups, and Mila Kunis looking sleek in a pair of black riding boots.

You can find all these items for your next jet-setting adventure from ForElyse.com! Here’s our model Paige wearing all the essentials: the Sis Sis All Wrapped Up Cardigan, a pair of Zenana Fleece Lined Leggings, and the comfy with a rocker edge Palma Boot. Add a pair of sunglasses to hide your sleepy eyes while still looking glam, and an oversized bag like the Golden City Purse is always a good idea to hold reading material and snacks for during the flight!

Now you’re ready to take the world by storm! See ya on the beach!

Trendy Tuesday: Menswear

Listen up ladies, we are taking over the working world in style with the menswear trend! Structured suits aren’t just for men and many designers and celebrities have been following in suit! (No pun intended). The key to wearing a structured two piece suit is to add a little feminine touch like a broach, clutch, or colorful heel. Frieda Pinto was seen in a bright red Gucci suit that she added a clutch and butterfly broach to play up the soft and hard edge of the suit. Emma Roberts wore a fun printed suit with a red clutch and sunglasses that was so reminiscent of old Hollywood at a Vogue event!

White suits have also been popular and super chic on stars like Kate Hudson and Taylor Swift! The key to a pulling off a great white suit is to make sure it is tailored properly to your body. Pair it with a red lip and fun pumps that can be either a day or night look!

You can never have too much color in your wardrobe and don’t let a bold colored suit scare you! Rock a bright suit like Nicki Minaj in this bubbble gum pink suit or Rashida Jones in a royal blue suit. You will really make a strong statement with a colored suit and pair it with a black top and fun pumps that can either be a lighter shade of the suit or another corresponding bright color! Just go for it!

Get the Look:

When putting together a  menswear inspired you look, you want to start with a great jacket like the Lush Tuxedo Blazer that has a classic structure but with a feminine edge. Next you want to pair it with a blouse that is collared but light and delicate at the same time. Something like the Lush Sweet and Sophisticated Top in Black is button up with a high low hem and shows little skin being sheer. Next, you can still show off your feminine curves with a pair of colored skinny jeans that like the edgy Flying Monkey Snake Print Pant in Black! The best part of the menswear trend is the accessories! Since you are wearing simple structured clothing you can really have fun with your accessorize! Pair your look with a fun pump like the Delicious Rainer Heel in Lipstick Red or the studded Delcious Shakia-S Heel that is to die for! Add a geometric clutch like the Street Level Big Ben Clutch or the snake print Urban Expressions Sass-Attack Clutch in Black as your finishing touch! Next time you go to work or out with your friends, you will definitely command the attention in any room you walk in with a great menswear look! Just don’t let the power go too much to your head!

Spring Trend Alert: Pretty in Pastels

With the new year right around the corner we’re all excited about the spring fashion trends, especially pastels! These subdued hues give off light, feminine vibes that can be styled anywhere from flirty to fierce with the right accents. This isn’t a groundbreaking trend either, pastels are spring staples just like florals and light layers, so feel free to indulge in some cool pastels this season! The spring runway shows were bursting with gentle shades of pink, blue, lilac, and green on pants, dresses, bags, you name it. Alexander McQueen‘s honeycomb yellow gown and Dior‘s metallic pastel bubble dresses might be a little harder to pull off, but will monochrome ensembles like Oscar de la Renta‘s rose shorts and sweater and Carolina Herrera‘s preppy blue and cream look inspire some light-colored fashion choices of your own?

If these pleasantly pale colors have caught your eye, you can snag some pastel pieces from ForElyse.com. Nude heels like these Delicious Rigby Pumps are a great way to work the trend with anything from your LBD to jeans, or maybe this Alythea Shimmer Me Timbers Dress in soft pink. I’m personally in love with this tea green Tara Purse and the minty green Sis Sis Stud-Struck Top to mix these lady-like tones into your everyday wardrobe.

Red Carpet Trends: 20s Style Waves

Get side swept for this Fashion Do’s: Retro 20s style waves! One of the biggest trends in fashion that is an up-and-comer is the 1920s era influence, especially for the Spring 2013 and Pre-Fall 2013 runways. One of my favorite examples of the 20s style was at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards where so many celebrities wore the side swept lose waves that are so romantic. Stars like Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Isla Fisher, Megan Fox, and Rachel Weisz rocked this look and its super easy to do!

Here is a simple How-To from my favorite blog The Beauty Department that shows you step by step of hot to get 20s style waves. All you need is a medium barrel curing iron, a clip, a comb, and some hair spray.

1. Clip the top half of your hair up

2 Curl the bottom layer with the curling iron, making sure to curl your hair in inside curls (toward your face)

3. Curl the rest of your hair in sections and make sure it is all curled the same way (inside)

4. Spray your curls with hairspray and let them set for a minute or two

5. Take your comb and gently brush out your curls, start to brush them so they form the same ascending shape

6. Once you have brushed them all out, curl the ends so they all consistently curl under

7. Finish off with hairspray and you have been transported back to the retro age!
